A company that said it’s working with Purdue University on an alumni directory contacted me. Is this a legitimate project, or is it a scam?
Purdue Alumni has partnered with Publishing Concepts (PCI) to produce our new alumni directory. PCI publishes directories for educational institutions, fraternities, sororities, and military organizations across the nation. By working with PCI, we’ll be able to update our database so we know more about our alumni and how we can better serve you.
What is the oral history project?
The oral history project is an exciting opportunity to help us preserve Purdue history and traditions. By sharing your story, you’ll help keep the memory of what makes Purdue so special alive for future generations. You should be receiving a postcard and email communication regarding both the directory and history project. You are welcome to respond by calling the number or filling out the questionnaire online.
Can I update my information for the directory without participating in the oral history project?
Yes! If you would like to update your information without participating in the oral history project, you are certainly welcome to do so. You can decide what information to share for the directory.
How does the Purdue Alumni Association benefit from this?
By completing the survey, you’re helping in a few ways:
- Updating your information allows us to effectively communicate with and engage alumni
- Sharing your story helps preserve the legacy and history of Purdue University for generations to come
- Buying the directory gives you access to Purdue alumni across the globe — including their unique stories and memories of time on campus — and helps generate revenue to support the Purdue Alumni Association’s work
Will my information be used for any purposes besides the alumni directory?
PCI will treat any information provided, including names and addresses, as confidential except where required by law or court order. The directory will be available exclusively to alumni of Purdue University. Upon completion of the project, PCI will return any and all electronic files that have been supplied by Purdue University or produced by PCI in connection with the production of the directory.
How do I verify and update my information?
If you have received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call the number to speak with a dedicated representative. The representative will verify all the information we have on file for you and make any updates where needed.
If you have received an email with an embedded link, you may go to the online site to review your information. If you have questions, you may call PCI’s customer service desk at 800-982-1590.
Can anyone purchase a directory?
The Purdue Alumni directory is available for sale only to Purdue University alumni.
When will I receive my directory?
With more than 575,000 alumni across the world, this is no small undertaking! Since we began the project in November 2019, we’ll need time to compile all the responses we receive. We’re currently targeting November or December 2020 for distribution.
Can I choose what information is in the directory?
When you call to update your information, you can tell the representative what information you prefer to have excluded.
